CoronaVirus message

I know this is a stressful time for everyone as the coronavirus spreads across the world.  While the virus can be potentially deadly and most certainly will make many people sick, it is important that we do not panic.  There is a lot of information available to help us understand the symptoms and treatment.  Please review this information from a variety of sources to keep yourself well informed.  We have the best and brightest minds around the world working diligently to stop this pandemic.

More importantly, while the doctors and scientists do their part, we need to do our part.  We must work to stop the fear that has settled into our collective consciousness and is arguably doing more harm than the actual virus.

Aside from the physical measures you can take to prevent the disease, I offer these mental steps to stay positive and resist the growing fear from the masses:

  • Focus on the 3 F’s:  Friends, Family, Fun.  Even if you cannot see people in person, stay connected through social media, phone, email, etc.  Make a point to talk about mundane life and funny memories.  Do not talk about the virus, unless you are going to discuss it in terms of light humor (e.g. “I can’t believe the world is coming to an end and people are most worried about wiping their butts” – we have a toilet paper shortage in case you missed it).

  • Take time to tell your friends and family how much you appreciate them.  This serves as a reminder of the important people in your life.  Be appreciative of the little things, and of your significant other, your loving pet, friends, co-workers, etc.  The legacy you leave behind will be determined by your gracious actions and the friends you made, not by the amount of physical goods you acquired.

  • Allow yourself only 15 minutes of news in the morning and another 15 minutes in the evening.  This will keep you current on the most recent events, but doesn’t allow you to become fixated and obsessed with the latest pundit telling us how the world is falling apart.

  • Spirituality.  This is a good time to reconnect with whatever higher force you believe in.  Take a few minutes each day to reflect on the good things in your life.  Make a commitment to go forward with a positive attitude and loving spirit.

These are just a few ideas to help keep us all on track.  Please take the necessary precautions, especially if you are in the high-risk group, but continue to live your life.  We are going to survive this and life will go on!  Stay positive, stay healthy, and stay vigilant.

I love you and may God bless you all!

Tom
